Extreme July 4th!  July 4
July 4th was not lost on the Extreme Boot Campers in Sherman Oaks when Owner, Mark Ritcheson kicked off their holiday with a water balloon toss that was extremely cold, a great activity to combat those warm temperatures. Tustin Ranch owner Tracy Zimmerman did the exact opposite, having her camp join in on a tug of war, working up quite a sweat and making their 4th extremely hot, but ending with a water balloon fight as well. The Simi Valley camp was on hiatus, but they were out showing their spirit and their Extreme Boot Camp colors as they enjoyed the fireworks in their local community. Santa Clarita campers were wiped out after owner Sean Machu organized the tug of war and the running of the obstacle course set up by the drill instructors - phew, what a work out! La Canada campers had an extended workout of an hour and a half...combining all of its classes with those who didn't go on vacation brought the attendance up to 142!
Tustin Ranch & Sherman Oaks Soar!Weight Tradin

Look for EBC Sherman Oaks at the 14th Annual "Keep LA Running 5k/10k" in Playa Del Rey on July 15. Tustin Ranch has finished its first session and will begin its second run on July 21. For everyone who wants to eat a bit tastier & healthier, Tustin Ranch will be holding a monthly nutritional cooking class hosted by their new nutrition chef Debi Palestina.

Debi's Mess Hall Debi

Tustin Ranch Introduces Debi's Mess Hall, a monthly cooking class which will combine your senses with sensibility.

Debi Palestina first donned her cooking school apron around 2003.  Out of her love for cooking, she voluntarily apprenticed many famous chefs at Cook-N-Things cooking school, a division of Bristol Farms.  It was there that she met Sheila Cluff from the Oaks at Ojai and the Palms in Palm Springs.  After working together on a healthy cooking class, Sheila asked Debi to become a guest chef at The Palms and The Oaks, where Debi regularly taught low fat, low calorie, low carb cooking classes to celebrity guests and regular folks alike. In addition to the health spas, Debi frequently taught healthy cooking classes at various Bristol Farms and Williams-Sonoma locations as well as private classes and did small scale catering for clients such as the Los Angeles Rams.  Debi has continued her love for cooking through the years, but attending Extreme Boot Camp rekindled her desire to share healthy cooking skills with others, so she's dusting off her apron and preparing to teach a fun and healthy class for Extreme Boot Camp of Tustin Ranch.

The first session of Debi's Mess Hall was be held on July 8, if you would like to know more please contact Extreme Boot Camp in Tustin (714) 264-2222.

Jill Brook
Hello!

Did you know that TIMING IS EVERYTHING when it comes to eating for best energy, metabolism, muscle-building and fat burning?

It is best to eat proportionally to how much energy you are
burning at the time. That means if you are burning the most energy in the morning and being sedentary all evening, you should eat the most calories in the morning and eat light in the evening. THIS IS THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I SEE PEOPLE MAKE-- they don't eat too much, they just time it wrong and consume all their calories at night when they burn most of their calories earlier in the day. You may need to wake up earlier to make time for a bigger breakfast and to pack some snacks for the day.  You'll also need to resist the urge to reward yourself at the end of the day with a big meal (unless you plan to be very active in the evening.)  These changes are tough at first, but will make all the difference in the end.

Remember that the key is timing your calorie INTAKE to mirror your calorie OUTPUT.  Try it and see what great results it gives you in terms of energy, mood and weight loss.

Have a good week!
